Distracted With Much Serving

Humor me for a moment, please. Close your eyes and picture Jesus walking. Done? How does he move in your mind? Have you ever imagined Him in a rush, a hurry, moving at a frantic pace? I never have. He moves gently, compassionately, stopping to touch, and talk, and heal. I don't know for sure, of course, but I am guessing that Jesus was never in a hurry. Compare the way He walks to the way you walk, to the way most women walk today. Hurried. Rushed. Multi-tasking. Driven. Identity lost. In Luke 10:40 it says that while Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus, "Martha was distracted with much serving." I believe this sums up American church women today. Distracted with much serving.
Psalm 139:17-18(NLT) says,"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them..." He thinks about us constantly, but so often I find that as women, we get so busy, so hurried, so "distracted with serving" that we forget to take the time to sit at His feet, to soak in the wonder of His deep and passionate, marvelous love for us. We don't, in essence, know His thoughts toward us. We don't stop to listen for His voice. When we don't take the time to learn His thoughts about us, to listen for His voice, we don't really know who we are. (Oh, the ploys of our enemy!)
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27  I am nothing without Him.  But with Him, oh with Him!  Isn't that the beauty of it all? With Him I can share His passion for His people. With Him I can share the power of His glorious Word. With Him, I am able to share His thoughts toward the people He loves so preposterously.  With Him, I am commissioned to call us back to His feet. With Him, I can remind women that we are only able to find our true purpose in Him. With Him, I can preach the Gospel, proclaim liberty to the captives, and watch Him heal the broken hearted. With Him. I only know who I am when I am with Him.
